We offer Panoramic, Bitewing and Cephalometric X-Rays by our experienced staff to make sure we don’t miss any aspect of your dental health.
A Panoramic X-Ray is fairly common for Orthodontics because it is a two dimensional X-ray that captures your entire mouth in a single image. They?show a broad view of the jaws, teeth,?sinuses, nasal area, and jaw joints known as temporomandibular. These X-rays show problems such as impacted teeth, bone abnormalities, cysts, tumors, infections, and fractures.
These x-rays are not used to find cavities. Unlike any other dental X-Ray panoramic X-Rays actually house the film in the machine. They are very noninvasive and help to detect not only the alignment of your teeth like for Orthodontics but also many other dental conditions.
Bitewing X-Rays are used to look at the crowns of your posterior teeth and to see the height of the alveolar bone. They show the upper and lower back teeth and how the teeth touch each other in a single view. These X-rays are used to?look for decay between the teeth and to show how well the upper and lower teeth line up. They also show bone loss when severe periodontal disease (gum disease) or a dental infection is present. It isn’t uncommon to have a Bitewing X-Ray done regularity to monitor your progression of dental health especially if you suffer from Gum Disease of have bone degradation in your jaw. The name “Bitewing” comes from the way the X-Ray is most commonly administered, you must bite down on the film in the side of your mouth.
Also commonly known as a “ceph” X-Ray, Cephalometirc X-Rays are used to help with Orthodontic and Sleep Apnea detection/monitoring. These type of X-rays help Sleep Apnea patients because they give a clear view of airways. Cephalometric X-Rays help Orthodontic patients to monitor progress and help for treatment planning.
