Regular check-ups and teeth cleanings are important to maintain a healthy smile. For celebrities, it’s a much larger concern since, for them, looking good in every role and red carpet appearance is a necessity. It is common knowledge that in-between teeth cleanings you must brush and floss your teeth to keep your teeth healthy. Even with a solid regiment of brushing and flossing regularly, it’s also wise to see your dentist and get your teeth cleaned.

As a barometer for your own dental care habits, let’s look at how people who are in the spotlight handle keeping their teeth clean and healthy?

What is Dentist Recommended?

This is a tough question to answer because everyone’s teeth are a little different and no one persons situation is the same as another. However, most dentists recommend that adult patients?visit the dentist at least twice a year for a check-up and teeth cleaning. This number does depend on the health of your teeth and gums as?they may require more care to stay healthy.

An example of a special case would be for anyone with gum disease. Most dentists suggest that patients with gum disease schedule a cleaning every 3 months. This frequency also depends on the severity of the gum disease. It’s best to have a discussion with your dentist about your dental health and cleaning needs.

What Do the Celebrities Do?

Interestingly, while some celebrities see the dentist very regularly for teeth cleaning, others do not. Even though there are some testimony’s from Hollywood dentists suggesting that they see their celebrity patients monthly or every other month, there are celebs that don’t like brushing their teeth.

In 2010 Jessica Simpson admitted during “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” that she doesn’t always brush her teeth. “Maybe three times a week” she said. She justified her point saying she doesn’t like her teeth to feel “too slippery“. ?Jessica did clarify that she is very conscientious about flossing and using mouth wash daily.

Though Ms.Simpson has adopted a laid-back dental maintenance schedule for herself, President Barack Obama spoke on flossing during a Nevada town hall meeting about healthcare. The President talked about the effects of dental health on the rest of your body saying that “dental hygiene is actually very important for keeping your heart healthy. It turns out that heart disease can be triggered when you’ve got gum disease. So everybody floss. Am I right? You got to floss.

Making the Best Decisions for Your Teeth

It would appear that the stances on teeth cleaning, and maintenance in-between cleanings, is just as different as the smiles they serve. There are rebuttals to having cleanings monthly, such as the frequent scraping could have long term affects on your teeth. In the end, each person has different needs for their teeth and gums. Talk with your dentist to make sure you’re meeting these needs to keep your smile looking great!
